Android cellphones have the ability to access the messages on your Gmail account via a connection to the Internet. There is no need to install the Gmail application on your Android phone because it comes with the operating system. Under normal circumstances, if you want to read your Gmail email, open the application on your phone. However, if the phone is not connected to the Internet, you will not be able to read your most recent messages. You can solve this issue by using the Gmail synchronizing feature to download your most recent emails for offline reading.

Tap the 'Gmail' icon on the Android phone's Home screen to open the Gmail application.

Tap 'Settings,' then tap 'Labels.' The Synchronization screen opens.

Tap 'Number of Days to Sync,' then select '4 Days.'

Tap the Gmail folder you want to synchronize under 'Labels.' For example, if you want to download email messages to your Inbox, tap 'Inbox,' then select 'Sync 4 Days.' Tap 'OK.' Your Gmail messages from the last four days automatically download to your inbox when your phone is connected to the Internet. Repeat the process for any other folder you want to synchronize, such the 'Sent' folder.

Read Messages

Tap the 'Gmail' icon on the Home screen. The Inbox automatically opens.

Tap an email message to open and read it. Messages that have a bold subject line are unread messages. Press the 'Back' button on your phone to return to the Inbox.

Tap the 'Inbox' button if the email messages you want to read is on another folder. Select the folder from the list, then tap the message you want to read.
